Pretoria- ICASA has published an update on the regulatory notices relating to the proposed market inquiries into the affordability of telecommunications services in South Africa and the impact of OTT services on licensees and the regulatory framework. 

The previously published notices relating to these inquiries have been withdrawn. The Authority confirms that it still intends to conduct an inquiry into the affordability of telecommunications services in South Africa, as set out in the new notice published on 30 September 2026. The new affordability notice outlines the purpose and process of the inquiry, including consideration of the affordability of telecommunications services and potential regulatory or market interventions.

The notice concerning the impact of OTT services on licensees and the regulatory framework in South Africa have been withdrawn in their entirety, effective from the date of publication of the withdrawal notice.
