Pretoria – The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa announces the launch of its Electronic Frequency Information System (EFIS) following the publication of the National Radio Frequency Plan (NRFP) 2026.
As part of its commitment to modernising spectrum management and improving public access to spectrum information, ICASA has developed and launched an enhanced EFIS, which is now accessible to the public on this link.
The EFIS is far more than a digital version of the NRFP. It is a comprehensive, interactive, and user-friendly platform for spectrum information that provides a dynamic representation of South Africa's frequency allocation table. The system serves as a single point of access for spectrum-related information and significantly improves transparency, accessibility and stakeholder engagement.
"The launch of EFIS demonstrates ICASA’s commitment to building a modern, digital, transparent and efficient spectrum management environment. EFIS will enhance regulatory efficiency and support South Africa's digital future", said Councillor Andrew Matseke, chairperson of the NRFP Committee.
Through the EFIS, users can seamlessly navigate the entire National Radio Frequency Plan, conduct targeted searches across frequency bands, and instantly access associated regulatory and technical documentation. The platform provides convenient access to relevant supporting materials, including applicable ITU-R Recommendations, footnotes, international allocations, and other key references, all of which can be downloaded directly from the system.
The introduction of the EFIS represents a significant milestone in ICASA's digital transformation journey and aligns South Africa with international best practices in spectrum management. By transforming a traditionally static document into an interactive digital resource, ICASA has made spectrum information more accessible, more transparent, and easier to utilise for regulators, operators, equipment manufacturers, researchers, academia, investors and the general public.
