Spectrum licensing plans for the WOAN and high demand spectrum

Pretoria – The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA/the Authority) invites all media and interested stakeholders to a virtual press conference to announce spectrum licensing plans and the issuance of the two Invitations To Apply for the Wireless Open Access Network as well as the International Mobile Telephony (IMT) spectrum.

ICASA will provide detailed plans for this licensing process and provide clarification where necessary. “The licensing of spectrum remains key on our regulatory agenda because we understand the benefits thereof. The spectrum auction proceeds will have broader economic benefits for the country as they will also incentivise broadband infrastructure investment and thus stimulate economic growth. More importantly, the release of spectrum is critical to ensure continued provision of good quality broadband services and the lowering of the cost to communicate (particularly data costs) in South Africa”, says ICASA Chairperson, Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng.

The press conference shall take place at the Ground Floor Auditorium, SABC Radio Park, and will also be streamed live on YouTube:

On Wednesday, 30 September 2020, and will start at 16h00.

Kindly note that the SABC is a National Key Point and everyone needs to have their Identity Documents with, and observe all health protocols including the wearing of masks. Please be on time to cater for the protocols.
