Hearings on the Draft Ordering System Specification for Number Portability

Pretoria – The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa published the Draft Ordering System Specification (OSS) for Number Portability on 13 December 2018 for public comments. Number Portability is a process that allow customers to keep their numbers when switching from one service provider (licensees) to another.

ICASA has since received seven (7) written submissions in respect of this process and will hold public hearings on 18 February 2019 at ICASA’s Head Office located at 350 Witch-Hazel Avenue, Eco-Point Office Park, Centurion. See schedule attached.

The Draft OSS seeks to ensure, amongst others, to facilitate effective implementation of the Number Portability Regulations and that number portability occurs in an efficient and effective manner without delays or disruption of services.

“The revised Number Portability Regulations and OSS are meant to be more consumer centric and provide customers more control on the porting process. This will also ensure that operators achieve the necessary quality of service and experience expected by the consumers” says ICASA Councillor Peter Zimri.
