ICASA to host a virtual workshop on the Authority’s Designated Certification Body Programme for equipment type approvals

Pretoria –The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa invites interested stakeholders and media representatives to attend its upcoming Type Approval workshop focused on the ICASA Designated Certification Body Programme, also known as the "ICASA Certification Scheme".

The workshop intends to provide industry players and stakeholders with valuable insights into the ICASA Certification Scheme and its integral role in the new Conformity Assessment Framework for Equipment Authorisation (CAFEA). Participants will have the opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of the scheme's goals and objectives, its processes and procedures, and how it will ensure compliance with the Equipment Authorisation Regulations, 2022.

The workshop will unpack the following:

  • ICASA Certification Scheme Integration: Stakeholders will learn how the ICASA Certification Scheme is integrated to the CAFEA framework, contributing to the establishment of world-class industry compliance.
  • Certification Body Eligibility: Stakeholders will explore the specific requirements for Certification Bodies to attain eligibility for designation by ICASA under the ICASA Certification Scheme.
  • ICASA DCB Programme: Stakeholders will examine the comprehensive outline of the ICASA Designated Certification Body (DCB) Programme, emphasising on Section 3.5 of the CAFEA.

Duly designated certification bodies will assist the Authority with the certification application process as provided for in regulation 8 of the Regulations.

The workshop will provide a unique platform for industry stakeholders to interact with regulatory experts, ask questions, and gain insights that are crucial for their operations,’” says Cllr Sithole, Committee Chairperson.

“ICASA looks forward to the stakeholders’ participation in this essential workshop, as together we strive to elevate telecommunications equipment compliance to align with emerging international best practices for the benefit of all industry stakeholders and consumers”, adds Cllr Sithole.

The invitation is extended to industry representatives, telecommunications equipment manufacturers, Certification Bodies, representatives of the media and other relevant parties.

The ICASA DCB Programme outlines the requirements needed for a certification body to become a designated certification body in accordance with the Equipment Authorisation Regulations, 2022 (“Regulations”), published in Government Gazette No 46146 (Notice No. 1949) of 31 March 2022.

These Regulations were developed by the Authority to give effect to the Conformity Assessment Framework for Equipment Authorisation (“CAFEA”) published in Government Gazette No 43047 (Notice No. 200 of 2020) on 25 February 2020.
