ICASA Calls on I-ECNS and I-ECS Licensees to Submit Licence Renewal Applications on Time

Pretoria - The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa calls on all licensees to take note of their respective licence expiry dates and ensure that they do not miss their licence renewal deadlines. This notice applies to all Individual Electronic Communications Network Service (I-ECNS) and Individual Electronic Communications Service (I-ECS).

Licensees are reminded that renewal applications must be submitted between 12 and 6 months before the licence expiry date, in line with the Processes and Procedures Regulations for Individual Licences, 2010 (as amended).

Licensees must refer to the effective date stated on their licence to determine the renewal period.  For example, a licence issued on 15 January 2009 expires on 14 January 2029, and the renewal application must be submitted between 15 January 2028 and 14 July 2028.    The Authority will publish a further notice outlining the process and submission requirements for renewal applications.

This is the first-ever renewal cycle of these I-ECS and I-ECNS licences following the 2005 enactment of the Electronic Communications Act (ECA) and the extensive licence conversion process that the Authority undertook in terms of section 93 of the ECA.

“We encourage licensees to submit their renewal applications within the stipulated timeframe to avoid any disruption of services to the public. Meeting these deadlines is essential not only to ensure continuity of service, but also to maintain compliance with licence conditions and regulatory requirements. Timely submissions help ICASA manage the licensing process efficiently”, said Cllr Mothibi Ramusi, Chairperson of the Authority.
