PRETORIA - The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has approved an application by Hot 1027 FM (Pty) Ltd to amend the programming format of its Individual Commercial Sound Broadcasting Service (I-CSBS) licence.
Hot 1027 FM submitted the application on 2 September 2024 in terms of section 10(1) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2005 (Act No. 36 of 2005), requesting an amendment to Clause 5 (Format) of its broadcasting licence.
At the time of the application, Hot 1027 FM’s licensed format required a 50% split between Classical Music and Old Skool/R&B music. Hot 1027 FM applied to change this format to 100% Old Skool and R&B music.
Following its consideration of the application, the ICASA Council at its meeting held on 18 June 2026, approved the amendment with the following licence condition: "The Licensee shall provide 15% Classical Music and 85% Old Skool and R&B Music."
The approved amendment allows Hot 1027 FM to increase its Old Skool and R&B music offering while retaining a Classical Music component as part of its licensed programming format.
Stakeholders can access the Authority's reasons for its decision on the ICASA website via the following link: https://www.icasa.org.za/pages/licence-amendments and in the Authority's Library at Block B, Eco Point Office Park, 350 Witch-Hazel Avenue, Centurion, during normal office hours.
